Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your air conditioning technician to come out and complete your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to get rid of twigs and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and trim back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal air conditioning service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature away from home and save money on your energy bills.

An annual A/C system tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioning system is set to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
