When the Dallas-Fort Worth area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) chose to support the Walk MS events in Dallas and Fort Worth, they thought it’d be great to offer something to the event walkers.
“Service Experts thought an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring we have been encouraging saving the air, and it helps remove germs and impurities from indoor air that can worsen allergies and respiratory issues,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck was the winner of the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she offered the most at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first discovered the APCO a few months before when she saw an article discussing the seriousness of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t pay much attention at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with nearly any HVAC system, and thought it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When I discovered it again at the Walk MS event, everyone was talking about the seriousness of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I instantly thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 years old and had lived with COPD for over 20 years. He had been on oxygen at all times for the past four years.
“The allergens in his air aggravated him even though I always installed the higher-priced 3M Filtrate brand of home air filters. They just weren’t helping. He repeatedly caught pneumonia despite the fact that he had only left his home over the past four years to see his doctors.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending no less than two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. In the time leading up to the Walk MS event in Dallas, Kim’s father had spent almost a month in the hospital and a few days at the rehab facility recuperating from two strings of pneumonia. After being there to see her father go through so much, Kim said she was willing to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was over the moon when she found out her bid had won and planned on having the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was discharged from the rehab facility. Sadly, three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully four days later. The APCO arrived a week later.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own house since her husband has issues with allergies. A short time after it was inserted, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any odors once she the meal was over. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of her APCO air purifier.
All of us here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning are keeping Kim and her family in our thoughts and prayers.
