Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still are relying on our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Not much is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should swap out standard air filters every 30 days. If you fail to do so, they can become clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but confirm the power switch next to the heating equipment is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently moved to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your heating equipment will still not kick on, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 613-817-1591 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
